Synopsis
Viewers are given a backstage pass into the lives of the five young men from Boston who, as the "boy band" New Kids on the Block, ignited a coast-to-coast teen frenzy from 1989-1992 only to become a pop culture punch line a few short years later. Created by R&B producer, Maurice Starr (who also created New Edition), New Kids on the Block was comprised of five street smart teens who had the looks, moves and tunes to take America's youth by storm. At the height of their fame, members Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood, Joey McIntyre, and brothers Jonathan and Jordan Knight were performing in stadiums filled with screaming pre-pubescent girls and had sold more than 60 million albums worldwide. New Kids mania propelled the group to official teen dream status, but the lack of privacy, rigorous touring schedule and endless meet-and-greets began to take a toll on the group. Added to the already volatile mix were accusations of lip-synching, one band member's battle with an anxiety disorder and the death of a young fan at a concert in Seoul. By 1992, the band was faltering, prompting them to take a break from the music industry. After a failed attempt at a comeback in 1994, the group finally decided to call it quits.
