Synopsis

Comedy special about Vivienne and Jackie, two actresses past their prime in London's West End theater scene. Vivienne is nervous about her upcoming audition for the musical version of "Angela's Ashes" and gets some help from her sister, Freda, a serious actress who always seems to be having an affair with her director. After deciding that the Susan Sarandon monologue from "Dead Man walking" is not her style, Jackie advises her to do her usual -- a very dramatic version of "Send in the Clowns." Jackie has enjoyed some success of her own with her show "Disco Follies '77," which she last performed in 1977. Her husband, Brice, a talent agent whose clients include grand-dame actress Dora Vermouth, is trying to persuade her to take the show on the road again so he can have enough cash to buy Johnny's Bar in nearby Convent Garden. Other characters include Yitta Hilberstam, a wanna-be actress and eccentric waitress from Iceland.
