Synopsis
Viewers are taken inside two correctional centers for a look at how the parole board of the state of Oklahoma deals with the parole hearings of three inmates. The board makes its recommendation to the governor, who makes the final decision. Aaron Cosar is 36 and is serving a life sentence for murder. He has served 15 years for shooting a 51-year-old man eight times. Cosar says he has grown up in prison, pointing out he was only 20 when he committed the murder and has been a model inmate ever since. He's very active in the prison Bible study program and often talks to schoolchildren about his crime and the consequences of his action. Michael Sanders, 43, tried to steal 530 pounds of copper wire valued at $1,342. In Oklahoma that's a felony punishable by up to 5 years. With his four previous convictions, Sanders was sentenced to 20 years. He had been released on supervised parole, but stopped reporting to his parole officer and was arrested for escape. He now wants parole from his 20-year sentence so he can begin his 3-year sentence for escape. Lincoln Taylor, 47, is serving time for assaulting an undercover police officer who was posing as a "john" in a prostitution sting. The officer and his partners claim that Taylor struck the officer with a baseball bat and took his wallet. Taylor claims that the officer was abusive toward the prostitute and had hit the officer to protect himself. He also says that the wallet had been planted on him. Taylor has served 15 years and is seeing the parole board for the first time.
