Synopsis

Documentary that goes behind the bars of the Newton Correctional Facility for a look at how the parole process works in the state of Iowa. Although the Iowa Board of Parole conducts the majority of parole hearings through fiber optic teleconferencing, the five board members conduct face-to-face hearings with inmates throughout the state at least once a year. The program profiles three parole-eligible inmates as they face the Parole Board: Patrick O'Shea, a 24-year-old inmate serving a 10-year sentence for armed robbery; Eddie Van Dorn, a 30-year-old inmate serving a 10-year sentence for failing to report for parole and forgery; and Michael Billick, a 43-year-old inmate serving 10-years for distribution of methamphetamines and possession of stolen property.
