Synopsis
Nero, who ruled the Roman Empire from 54-68 AD, was the fifth Roman Emperor. While Nero's reputation as a ruler was not strong, he did take the opportunity of rebuilding Rome after a great fire in 64 AD in which his Golden House was the centerpiece of the reconstruction. After it was completed, Nero's Golden House was one of the grandest buildings on Earth. However, later Romans built the Coliseum on top of Nero's Golden House and today only a few rooms remain of the grand structure. Virtual reconstruction of the palace, footage of the current remains and expert analysis provide an account of Nero's Golden House and Roman life during his rule. In addition, the program explores the Roman's power, propaganda and trade networks between emperor, empire and the rest of the world.
