Synopsis
Through the eyes of a family of otters, the program explores Britain's last wilderness along the western coast through its entire range of dramatic seasonal changes. In spring, hordes of jellyfish pulse and waltz in the clear, turquoise waters. During the summer, the world's second largest fish, the basking shark, comes to the waters off Scotland to sieve the rich soup of plankton. Above are millions of fulmars, puffins, gannets and terns swarming and diving for fish to feed their chicks. Like the sea birds, the otter enjoys this seasonal feast, and some of the tern chicks are taken by the otter to feed its cubs. As autumn approaches, the mother otter teaches her cubs to fish. With winter comes the storms and blizzards, and the otters continue to care for their young and must hunt in some of the most dangerous waters around the British Isles.
