Synopsis

Documentary examining the "Jennifer Project" of 1968, the successful recovery by the United States of a Soviet submarine that had sunk 750 miles northwest of Hawaii. While the Soviets tried in vain to find the sub, the U.S. hired billionaire Howard Hughes, whose covert operation constructed a ship called the "Glomar Explorer," for the sole purpose of raising a sunken submarine. The mission was completed but little is known of the outcome. Although secret documents stolen from Hughes' offices shortly after the incident indicate otherwise, the CIA claims the mission was a failure. Includes interviews and footage of actual search and recovery missions.
