Synopsis

Documentary that takes viewers inside the maternity ward at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. "Good Sam" saw over 7000 births last year, many of which were high-risk pregnancies and teen births. One couple has just received the news that their fourth child has spina bifida, which usually leads to paralysis and sometimes death. Dr. David Moss, a pediatric neurosurgeon, must operate on the infant, closing his spinal cord, and relieving the pressure in his head. Another high-risk mother, a 400-pound born-again Christian, is only 34 weeks pregnant but has had chronic preterm labor for months. The program also follows several teenagers as they prepare for childbirth, some for the second time. Dr. Ellen Bunche, a first-year resident in Labor and Delivery has a teenager herself, and tries to help these young mothers get the guidance and support they're going to need to raise a child.
