Synopsis
Doris Trowbridge, known locally as "Weird Doris" because of the way she looks, never finished high school and apparently never figured out what's cool and what's not. She spends her time visiting yard sales to restock her eclectic junk/antique store, Hidden Treasures, in Glendale, Indiana, and watching her favorite soap opera, starring glamorous Regina Lee Savage. But Doris' life is about to change forever when she discovers a mysterious and magical ring inside a small wooden box. With the ring, Doris wishes for improved eyesight and a new hairdo and just like that, her wishes are granted.Best friends, 14-year-old Marci and Summer, who work part-time in Doris' store, refuse to believe in the magic ring. Their opinion changes when Doris transforms two caged rats into two healthy hunks, Spike and Scooter, who the girls can take as dates to the annual spring dance. However, Doris gets more than she bargained for when she wishes to be transformed into her soap idol, Regina Lee Savage. When this happens, Herb Soric, a handyman who's had a secret crush on Doris for 22 years, is convinced that the famous actress has done away with his girl. The only thing that can set things straight is the magic ring -- which is nowhere to be found.
