Synopsis

The Quest team travels deep into the jungles of Costa Rica to track "Big Mama," a tapir that has just had a new baby. Central America's largest mammal, the tapir can weigh up to 500 lbs. The researchers track previously radio-tagged tapirs, including Big Mama, in an attempt to track the entire life cycle of a wild tapir. Next, the team travels to the remote Osa peninsula, to an area known as Drake Bay. Scientists and park officials collaborate to establish data on the 20 cetacean species found in the tropical waters, including orcas, sperm whale, spinner, pan tropical spotted and bottlenose dolphin. Finally, the program introduces Gerardo Abadia, who has been working with caimans and American crocodiles for the last 20 years. Abadia's goal is to count Osa's crocodiles, assess their habitat, and use the information to construct an overview of their general health and their future viability.
