Synopsis

Twelve-year-old Clotee lives on a Virginia plantation and has secretly taught herself how to read and write. Clotee discovers that Mr. Harms, the tutor of the household, is also a conductor on the Underground Railroad that transports escaped slaves to the North. When two friends in love are in danger of being separated by the master of the house, Clotee helps them escape using the Underground Railroad. After the tutor is forced to leave the house, Clotee assumes his duties as conductor rather than fleeing for her own freedom. Special based on the Scholastic book series that tells fictional stories about heroic young women during important periods in American history.
