Synopsis
Profile of Mary, Queen of Scots. She became queen of Scotland at just six days old, and remained so until her execution 44 years later. The program tells the story of the power struggle between Mary and Queen Elizabeth I of England. Though their lives were inextricably linked, the two women never met. Mary was accused of plotting Elizabeth's death and was held captive by the English queen for 19 years, until Elizabeth finally ordered her execution. The tangled knot of politics, religion and personal rivalries that formed the background of Mary's life involved religious feuds between Protestants and Catholics, private feuds between back-biting Scottish nobles and jealous competition for the crowns of Scotland, England and France.
