Synopsis

Eleven-year-old Alex, is an adventurous boy living in a Jewish ghetto in Poland during World War II. When the Nazis make their final sweep of the ghetto, Alex is separated from his father Stefan. As he awaits his father's return, Alex must use his wits to survive in the deserted ghetto where the Nazis continue to search and no one can be trusted. Inspired by his favorite book, "Robinson Crusoe," Alex builds an ingenious hiding place on the top floor of one of the bombed-out buildings on Bird Street, learning to persevere with the companionship of his pet mouse, Snow. He saves the lives of two Resistance fighters and develops a friendship with a Polish girl. After several months pass, Alex's father returns to the ruined house on Bird Street, where he is reunited with his son. Together, father and son head to the safety of the forest where they will wait for the war to end.
