Synopsis

Frank and Theresa Foley are respected agents with the FBI. Having completed the FBI's training course in hostage negotiation, Theresa has risen to the top of her field. Frank has not been doing quite as well. Theresa successfully negotiates the release of hostages in a botched bank robbery attempt, earning her a special FBI commendation. But her success is beginning to take its tole on Frank.

When Theresa finds a duffel bag filled with cash in Frank's home filing cabinet, she realizes that Frank has been embezzling money from his sting operations. Just as the harsh reality of the situation is hitting her, Frank walks in and catches her with the money. The following day the police show up to arrest Theresa for embezzlement. Frank has turned her in and provided bank deposit slips with her signature. The only way they will even consider not pressing charges against her is if she agrees to testify against Frank, who threatens to kill her is she does so. Theresa is so frightened that she claims to know nothing about the money when the prosecutor puts her on the stand. Frank is convicted even without Theresa's testimony. The FBI, however, demands Theresa's resignation for refusing to cooperate.

Having lost the two most important things in her life, her husband and her job, Theresa finds herself a single mother and out of work. She takes the first job she can get, head of security for a mall department store, and begins to forge a new life for herself. Everything seems to go well for nearly a year; she even becomes close to Danny, her old co-worker. Little does Theresa know that Frank has recently been released from prison and is plotting a revenge so devious, it is beyond her wildest nightmare. With her children at risk, Theresa finds that she must use all of her hostage negotiator skills to save herself and her children.
