Synopsis
Documentary that attempts to come to a definitive answer about the history of the Great Sphinx. The 187-foot-long, 66-foot-high and 20-foot-wide structure is the lion-bodied icon of ancient Egypt. It faces the rising sun each morning. It was taller in antiquity when it sported a plumed crown that fitted into a now filled socket on top of the striped royal headdress. Long accepted to have been built at the same time as the Giza pyramids, in front of which it stands like a guardian sentinal, there are now suggestions that the Sphinx may be older.
