Synopsis

A tortilla combined with a dash of magic realism, sprinkled with hope and baked in faith provides one woman with a sign -- the image of Jesus in a burnt tortilla -- and a reason to celebrate life and love in a barrio kitchen. Margarita, a devout Catholic woman who works as a hairdresser, sees the face of Jesus in a tortilla she burns. Her artist husband Roberto, who hasn't been to Mass for years, scoffs at her "miracle" until a blessing on the tortilla cures his impotence. Soon neighbors line up at Margarita and Roberto's door to witness the holy tortilla and ask for its blessing. But, the miracle tortilla has its doubters, chief among them Rosa, Margarita's boss at the beautician's shop. But the faith of Margarita, Roberto, their priest and the many other witnesses to the holy tortilla overpowers Rosa. In the end, this unusual event brings the community together, and through an act of faith, Margarita realizes that the good things she thought were missing from her life were there all along.
