Synopsis

A look at the journeys of four young men in and out of Baltimore's Juvenile Justice System. The filmmakers obtained unprecedented access to a world generally closed to the outside. Set primarily in Maryland's Cheltenham Youth Facility -- originally known as The Center for Reformation for Colored Boys -- the program explores the events that propel these troubled young men into the system, their experiences through court, commitment, rehabilitation and release -- and the challenges they face when they return to their communities. Shawn, 17, overcomes the odds and gets off the streets; Daniel, 14 and mentally ill, finds himself criminalized and trapped in a system that is unwilling to help; Tameal, 17, becomes a leader among his peers and emerges more mature; and Anthony, 16, finds redemption from a loving father.
