Synopsis
A four-part series presenting outstanding television documentaries from around the world. "Burning Patience" tells of a postman's friendship with the famous Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda, and recounts the history of Allende's Chile and Neruda's life and work. The film was produced for West German television. "The Marketing of Margaret," a BBC production, examines how the Conservative Party "marketed" Margaret Thatcher during the British general election, much as "the new Nixon" was marketed to American voters in 1968. "Video Gratias," a Swiss documentary, focuses on the growing phenomenon of U.S. churches that transmit their sermons via the latest electronic technology. "The Eyes of the Birds," a French film, reveals the plight of political prisoners in Uruguay. Two short works, a Danish animated film, "Tonespor," and a Swiss film, "Danse Macabre," are included in the series.
