Synopsis
Today, four million American children begin their school day by taking a small yellow pill, Ritalin, to control their hyperactivity. Since 1990, there has been a 700% increase in the use of the drug. And, a decade after Prozac was introduced, American's love affair with it and other anti-depressants has moved into the playpen. Last year, more than 2.5 million prescriptions for anti-depressants were written for children and adolescents. While there's no question that many children have been helped by these drugs, the statistics suggest that stimulants and other psychotropic drugs are being prescribed far too easily to thousands of children.
