The Impressionists were a small cadre of artists who challenged the staid art world of mid-19th century Paris, and changed painting forever. They were determined to paint the world as they saw it, no matter the cost. Poverty and obscurity dogged them. They struggled against each other as well, fighting bitterly over money, recognition and direction. Yet they also supported each other artistically and financially for much of their lives.
