Many say that the money was stolen from international loans that were supposed to help the poor, Imelda's number one supporters. Imelda grew up in the provinces. At 25, she married the congressman, Ferdinand Marcos. After Ferdinand was elected president in 1965, Imelda spent her years helping improve social welfare and building scores of cultural and medical complexes. She spent exorbitant amounts of money on everything from New York skyscrapers to shoes -- three thousand pairs.
