Often called "imagined ugliness," people who suffer from body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) are incessantly preoccupied with a slight, or often imagined, physical defect. Because BDD patients feel as though they are grotesque, they have difficulty interacting with others in social situations, express extreme feelings of self-hate (often to the point of body mutilation), and often attempt suicide.
