Synopsis
Documentary recounts the mistaken German torpedo attack on the Cunard liner Laconia in September 1942. After the attack, the German captain realized that the Laconia was not an enemy troop carrier but was carrying British women and children as well as 1800 Italian POWs. The raider turned rescuer, picking up hundreds of survivors with the help of additional U-Boats and Vichy French warships. More than 1000 of the Laconia's 2750 passengers were saved.
