Synopsis

In June 1988, in the small central Florida town of Alturas, the Carr family received a note in the mail which read: "You and all your so-called family have two weeks to move out of Florida forever or else you all die. This is no joke." Four months after the note arrived, Peggy Carr, a 41-year-old waitress, was hospitalized for mysterious symptoms her doctors couldn't explain. At the same time, her teenaged son Duane and stepson Travis developed similar symptoms. The investigations revealed that the family was being poisoned by a substance that had been planted in a pack of Coca-Cola found in the Carr home. Duane and Travis recovered, but Peggy lapsed into a coma and died. A neighbor, George Trepal, speculated that someone might poison a neighbor to get them to move out. He became the prime suspect. During a search of his house, investigators found traces of the poison and a hidden soundproof torture chamber. George Trepal was found guilty of first-degree murder.
