Synopsis
Concert-style performance of a musical inspired by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's epic 1847 poem that intertwines a story of star-crossed lovers with Louisiana history. "Evangeline" begins in 1755 as the British banish the Acadian people from Nova Scotia. During their exile, childhood sweethearts, Evangeline and Gabriel become separated and spend the rest of their lives trying to find each other. After arriving in Louisiana, Evangeline spends her days in what is now St. Martinville, Louisiana, sitting on a swing hung from a giant oak tree waiting for Gabriel to come back to her.
