Synopsis

Television movie based on the life of Henriette Delille, a free woman of color in pre-Civil War New Orleans. Delille was expected to attend the frequent Quadroon Balls sponsored by wealthy white landowners for the purpose of selecting mistresses. While these arrangements often gave mistresses the benefits associated with marriage, Delille rejected the lifestyle and established the first religious order for women of color.
