Synopsis

In this remake of the 1944 Bette Davis movie, reuniting Katharine Hepburn and director George Cukor for the tenth time in forty-seven years (he directed her in her first movie, "A Bill of Divorcement," in 1932), Lilly Moffat, the strong-willed spinster teacher, goes again on her mission to educate the illiterate youth of a turn-of-the-century North Wales mining community and finds one with a spark of genius. Katharine Hepburn won an Emmy Award nomination for her performance, as did costume designer David Walker. Ivan Davies' script originally was credited to James Costigan.
