Synopsis

Elephants have one of the longest childhoods in nature. The program explores this vital stage of each elephant's life. For the first 8-12 years of their lives, young African elephants are totally dependent on their family group and through this group they learn about the complex world in which they live. Elephants, like humans, learn about 95 percent of what they know, and they must explore and remember the details of their world -- the changing landscape in which they live, the other species who share their habitat, and the complex interrelationships and roles that are central to their society.
