In Egypt, archaeologist Jean-Yves Empereur and his team try to learn as much as they can from what could be the world's oldest mausoleum-type structure, revealed during construction for a highway overpass. The necropolis ("city of the dead") was used around the third century BC and was built by the son of Alexander the Great. Constructed to store and honor the dead, the site contains extensive honeycomb-like spaces for the bodies, as well as ceremonial preparation areas and banquet facilities.
