Synopsis

Documentary takes a look at the lives of the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard. The three segments describe dangerous jobs that the Coast Guard performs as daily routine. Episode One follows a five-week cruise of a patrol cutter as the officers and crew search incoming ships for drugs, during the course of this operation a hurricane hits and the Farallon goes on a search and rescue mission for survivors. Episode Two takes place in Cape Disappointment, a spot where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. Every year ships and crew from the surrounding town vanish without a trace. Episode Three travels to Kodiak, Alaska where 5,000 men and women from the largest Coast Guard facility fly helicopters off cutters in the Bering Sea to search and guard some of the richest and most dangerous fishing grounds in the world.
