Synopsis
Almost 2000 people are killed every year in construction accidents -- more than four workers every day -- making construction the second most dangerous industry in the nation, after transportation. Because of the heavy equipment used, the heights scaled and the massive materials involved, construction has always been a dangerous industry. Just 60 years ago, engineers used an equation that proposed for every $1 million spent on a construction project, one worker would be killed. That was before OSHA, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor, and before the courts started holding contractors liable for injuries, illnesses and deaths.
