Synopsis

A high school girl persuades her boyfriend to kill a classmate for the latter's winning lottery ticket.

Kristen and Jason are high school seniors who have been dating for three years and whose fathers are successful and wealthy business partners. When their fathers' business goes bankrupt, Kristen and Jason are faced with losing their elite status and the spoils they believe they cannot live without. Determined to enjoy one last hurrah, Kristen accepts an invitation for a getaway in the mountains with friends. Surprising the group, Graham has invited a friend from the "other side of the tracks." Richard is a scholarship student whose parents died when he was fifteen. Over the weekend, Richard discovers that he has won the lottery -- over a million dollars.

Kristen first tries seducing Richard. When this fails, she concocts a murder plan to be carried out by her boyfriend, Jason. By redeeming his ticket, Kristen justifies that this fortune would cement her and Jason's future. Kristen is determined to maintain her wealthy lifestyle and go to Harvard no matter what it takes. Out of an intense love for his girlfriend, Jason proceeds with Kristen's plan and pushes Richard over a steep cliff while the they are hiking. The couple get more than they bargained for when Graham catches Kristen trying to steal the winning lottery ticket from Richard's corpse. Kristen and Jason are left with no other choice but to kill him.

As Kristen and Jason are trying to dispose of the two bodies, Graham's girlfriend, Amber, arrives at the mountain house unexpectedly. She remains unconvinced of the unfortunate "car accident" that caused the untimely passing of Richard and Graham. Thanks to the video yearbook that Graham was in the process of creating, Amber determines what actually occurred over the weekend at Graham's mountain house, and she contacts the police. Meanwhile, Kristen and Jason are about to redeem the ticket when they discover that it is not a winning lottery ticket. Richard has been testing the money-hungry couple all along to see how they would react. The police try and catch up with the couple in a car chase. Jason's jeep crashes head on into an oil truck, leaving Kristen and Jason to perish in the flames.
