Synopsis

In 1620, King James I watched as the world's first submarine traveled along the Thames. Court engineer Cornelius Drebbel was so secretive about his invention that there are only clues to how he built the "impossible." Professor Chris Wise, a structural engineer, and Dr. Caroline Baillie, a materials scientist, are challenged with the task of recreating the world's first submarine, built over 300 years ago and made of wood. They must accomplish this using only 17th century principles and materials, and they've got six months time to put a manned version in the water. Chris and Caroline employ the help of experimental physicist Dr. Ed McKigney, submarine designer Stephanie Merry, and historic boat builder Mark Edwards.
