Explores the handicrafts and traditional arts of the "Pennsylvania Dutch," who actually are the descendants of German immigrants. Filmed in the Pennsylvania countryside, the program highlights the craftspeople, musicians and artists who keep Pennsylvania German folk art a thriving part of American culture. Practitioners demonstrate their skills and share their feelings about their art, while historians and art curators add insight and perspective. Featured arts include: fraktur, the art of illuminated writing; pottery; tole ware, the practice of decorating tin with varnished color; and hex signs and other barn decorations.
