Synopsis
A five-part series exploring innovative techniques in contemporary medicine, and examining the impact of recent medical developments on the lives of doctors, researchers, patients, and their families. The series commemorates the two-hundredth anniversary of the founding of the Harvard Medical School. Part 1, "Born Too Soon," examines the advances in neonatal care responsible for increasing premature babies's chances for survival; Part 2, "The Last Hope," explores new treatment for leukemia patients; Part 3, "A Better Way," describes treatment of burn victims with artificial skin; Part 4, "A Professor of Surgery," follows the daily routine of the Chief of Surgery at Harvard Medical School; Part 5, "Heart of the Matter," describes changes people can make in their lifestyles that can significantly improve health and longevity.
