Synopsis
Seventeen-year-old Ian Bedloe lives with his parents and older brother Danny in Baltimore 1965. When Danny meets Lucy, a divorcee with two children, Ian and his parents are disturbed when Danny and Lucy quickly marry and have a daughter, Daphne, seven months later. Ian wonders whether Danny is really Daphne's father. One night, Ian meddles in his older brother's life, and from that careless moment on, nothing is the same. Following an accident that causes Danny's death, Lucy succumbs to her own unhappiness and takes her own life. Seeking to make amends and haunted by guilt over his brother's death, Ian drops out of college to raise Lucy and Danny's three children, altering his life forever. Ian is also drawn to the Church of the Second Chance, led by the charismatic Reverend Emmett, who convinces Ian that forgiveness doesn't come automatically.
