"Hill Street Blues" first aired in 1981 and lasted until 1987. It was part documentary, part soap opera and part sitcom. L.A. Law premiered in 1986 and made sex symbols out of members of the ensemble cast. The two series each won four consecutive Best Drama Emmys.
