Synopsis

Viewers are taken to the prison at Grendon Underwood in Buckinghamshire, England, to see how it deals with inmates convicted of some of the most violent and serious crimes in the British prison system. It does so in a way that is unique. Every inmate in Grendon is a volunteer. Inmates from other prisons in the British system can apply to come to Grendon. They're accepted on the condition that they will participate in a form of group therapy that will help them confront every aspect of their criminal lives -- their backgrounds, their behaviors in prison and the nature of the offense that brought them to prison. The Grendon therapeutic process has proved more successful than any other in achieving the aims of the original prison reformers, the turning of criminals into law-abiding citizens.
