Synopsis

A look at San Francisco during the height of the dot.com boom and then its aftermath. As Mayor Willie Brown attempted to attract new businesses and internet companies to the city, he provided investment incentives that had a negative impact on the poorer local communities. By tightening zoning laws, the city began the wholesale eviction of many poor/ethnic families, independent stores, not-for-profit groups and social service facilities. With the increasing gentrification of neighborhoods such as the Mission, protestors took to the streets. But by the time the internet boom had ended, it was too late, much of the city's poor/ethnic population had been displaced, some even forced into homelessness.
