Synopsis

Profile of the singing and songwriting group the Bee Gees -- brothers Barry Gibb, Maurice Gibb and Robin Gibb. Their singing career started in England in 1957, but when they emigrated to Australia, they were discovered and made their first records, becoming Australian television and nightclub stars. They returned to England and by 1967 were the darlings of Swinging London. Jealousy and personal difficulties ripped the band apart, but after solo successes, the Bee Gees reunited with "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart." They moved to America in 1974 and began making disco music that took them to the top of the charts and to "Saturday Night Fever." By early 1980, the Bee Gees hit a brick wall. The brothers quietly wrote and produced records for other artists, such as Barbra Streisand, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Diana Ross and Dionne Warwick. By 1987, the Bee Gees returned when their first record in four years went to the top of the charts worldwide.
