Synopsis

The continuing escalation of conflict between Israelis and Palestinians makes it hard to believe that just over a year ago the prospects for peace seemed so bright. Only a few months before the current intifada began, documentary videomaker Ra'anan Alexandrowicz accompanied a Palestinian tour group on a three-day "sightseeing" trip to Israel, determined to capture what, for many vacationing Palestinians, was a trip of immense importance. Many had never been to the homeland of their elders- the land occupied by Israel in the wake of the 1967 war -but for some of the older ones it was an emotional return "home." What could be seen by some as a weekend jaunt across the border becomes an unfinished journey traversing time and crisscrossing between the recollections of the vanished past and the harsh realities of the present day.
