Synopsis

Explores the castles of Scotland reclaimed by Americans in search of their ancient heritage. Fyvie Castle, one of the richest and most romantic castles in Scotland, was purchased by Alexander Leith on his return to his native Scotland, after his success in the American steel industry in the 19th century. Crathes Castle, built in the 16th century, was occupied by a single family for over 350 years. In 1814, the heir to Crathes emigrated to America, made a fortune in ranching, then returned to Crathes with his New York bride. The top floor of Culzean Castle, built in 1772, was given to General Eisenhower in 1945 as a thank you from the people of Scotland. He visited the castle before, during and after his presidency.
