Synopsis
For two hundred years, the Aztecs were the most powerful empire on the continent. This highly sophisticated society developed strong cultural harmony and order during a nomadic time period, Highly successful farmers, they settled in the area that is now Mexico City. But to ensure that nature remained benevolent, they practiced human sacrifices to the gods. As drought and deforestation began to take their toll on the society, the Aztec priests sacrificed more and more citizens to appease the gods. But the end for this advanced civilization came with the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors who were mistaken for saviors. The fascinating contradictions of the Aztecs whose traditions were steeped in both civilization and violence are examined. 3D computer animation portrays the Aztecs' many achievements.
