Synopsis
Every week, a son visits his father on a beautiful island, surrounded only by the endless horizon and the sea. They build elaborate kites and release them into the sea blue sky. The father captivates his son with tall tales of a land called Magonia, lifting their spirits off the sand and sending them soaring over seas and deserts to a world of mosques and towering minarets. In one, a woman cares for an old muezzin, a Muslim crier who calls the hour of daily prayers, but falls in love with his young apprentice. In another, an estranged couple has an encounter with an old man and his son. This chance meeting sparks their longing for human contact and for freedom. In the last tale, a woman waits for the man she loves to return. As the father shares his stories with his son, the boy comes to see the world through the elder's far-seeing eyes. As the crystalline tales recede like the tide, he also recognizes his father's fragility and intensity.
