Synopsis
A three-part documentary special that explores the geology and natural history of the Atlantic Ocean. Part 1, "Island Arks," goes back to the dawn of time to illustrate the formation of the North Atlantic Ocean. The second episode, "Ocean of Light," follows the winds and currents of the Atlantic which affect the feeding, breeding and migrating behavior of the life forms on or near the surface of the ocean -- the photic zone -- the zone in which light penetrates. The final episode, "Into the Abyss," plunges down the continental slope into the deep Atlantic where no light penetrates.
