Synopsis

Reality special in which a modern family lives as a family in the year 1900 would have lived. The Bowler family -- parents Joyce and Paul, and four of their five children, 17-year-old Kathryn, 11-year-old twins Hilary and Ruth, and nine-year-old Joe -- are taken back in time to the spring of 1900 in Greenwich, a suburb of London, England. For three months, they live in a charming late-Victorian terraced house on Elliscombe Road, dressing in period clothing and living as a family in 1900 would have lived. Before embarking on their time-trip, the Bowlers visit 19th century Shugborough Hall, where staff from the Museum of Domestic Culture provide several days of orientation about tools and tricks of the past, including training in the use of antique household implements, cooking ingredients and products for cleaning and personal hygiene.
