Synopsis
Documentary that explores how both AIDS patients and people living with asymptomatic HIV are coping with the personal and emotional issues of the disease. The program also examines the risk factors confronting the population at large. Part 1 introduces Jennifer Jako, a typical 18-year-old girl until she was infected with HIV at a party. Now at the age of 27, Jennifer is living her life with HIV and concentrating on what lies ahead for her in the future. Part 2 explores advances in treatments for HIV/AIDS and the possibility of discovering a cure. Dr. Paul Volberding of the University of California at San Francisco, discusses the nature and success of combination therapy -- known colloquially as "the drug cocktail" -- that has not only brought thousands back from the brink of death, but restored them to near perfect health.
