Synopsis
Bob Vila travels around the United States in search of the Palladian legacy. Featured houses include: Mount Pleasant, a Palladian mansion built outside of Philadelphia by a pirate named MacPherson, which is currently a gallery for the Philadelphia Museum of Art; the Jeremiah Lee Mansion, a vestige of 18th century Palladianism in Marblehead, Massachusetts; Gore Place, built in the 19th century; Boscobel, a New York country home in the Hudson Valley; the Austin House in Hartford, Connecticut, built in 1930 and inspired by a Veneto villa; Vitruvian House, a large home made of Indiana limestone, cement block and classical detailing; and Villa Indiana, an affordable starter house based on Palladian villas tha architect had measured and studied.
