Synopsis
The stories of the black men and women who defied odds to fly as 20th century aviation pioneers. Stories include: Eugene Bullard, who joined the French Air Service during World War I and was awarded the Croix de Guerre, France's highest honor; Bessie Coleman, who went to France to get her pilot's license and returned to the U.S. to open a flight school for blacks; Willa Chappel, the first black woman to hold a commercial pilot's license, who helped train the Tuskegee Airmen; and Lieutenant General Frank Petersen, the first Marine Corps black aviator and its first black general, who flew combat missions during Korea and Vietnam.
