Synopsis
Growing up in the Tunisian countryside, Fatma is raped by her cousin at the age of 17. Desperate to escape her home and father, she's able to attend university with the help of her step-mother. After an affair with a boy at school, Fatma unexpectedly drops out to take a job as a rural schoolteacher. She meets doctor Aziz and falls in love. Fatma wants to marry Aziz, but he will likely reject her if he learns she is not a virgin. As she attempts to disguise this fact, Fatma faces a struggle with the hypocrises of tradition and what it means to be a woman in Arab society.
